We had our appointment with the obstetrician today. The important thing is baby is well, nothing big has changed in terms of prognosis or plan of care, we're just keeping a close eye on things. If you're interested in the details, they are below.
We had an ultrasound to check on baby and all is well. Baby is the right size and has good blood flow going on and all that good stuff. The obstetrician we met with, Dr. Griffith Jones, was lovely. He was very careful to answer all our questions to the best of his ability. What we found out is that there may be a separate condition unrelated to the lymphoma responsible for my itchiness and my elevated liver enzymes called cholestasis of pregnancy. This is basically a buildup of bile salts in the blood which are then deposited under the skin, causing itchiness. And like most obstetric conditions, they attribute it to pregnancy hormones. It's not dangerous for the mother but it can cause preterm birth. We're waiting on a blood test to determine if I have cholestasis. It should be back within a week. In the meantime, the risk of cholestasis plus the risks for baby associated with chemo mean that they're going to do ultrasounds every 2 weeks to check baby's measurements and such. So I'll have chemo one week, and an ultrasound the next for the foreseeable future.
That's all we really know for the moment. No date for chemo yet, hopefully will talk to Dr. Toupin (my hematologist) tomorrow. As always, we appreciate your prayers.
